Thin hairlines, responsive snap-back, easy variation, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it an ideal choice for calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian (see WRITING SAMPLE). It lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to an impressive 4B++ (approx. 14k Waterman Ideal #2 is a Wet Noodle with flow and softness comparable to that of a dip pen. Bottom of the barrel is knurled for posting. This pen is made of black hard rubber with a sterling silver overlay (as marked) in an Art Deco pattern Waterman called Basketweave. Waterman's 'L.E.C.' ("Lower End Covered") overlays are a bit less common than partially covered pens today.
